AI Toolery Lab

Our review methodology

Most "Top 10 AI Tools" content is built one of two ways: ranked by who pays the highest affiliate commission, or paraphrased from the vendor's own marketing site. Both produce content that wastes your time. We're trying not to do that. Here's how we work instead.

Signal sources we trust

  1. G2 and Capterra reviews — filtered to verified reviewers, weighted toward recency (last 12 months).
  2. Founder/vendor public statements — earnings calls, podcast interviews, dev blog posts. These reveal product trajectory better than glossy landing pages.
  3. Reddit + Hacker News user reports — surfaced via specific subreddit search (e.g. r/SaaS, r/sales), filtered for substance over sentiment.
  4. Public benchmarks — when applicable (e.g., voice-clone naturalness, code-LLM evaluations, deliverability tests run by independent platforms).
  5. Direct hands-on use — tools we've personally operated in production. Clearly labeled when applied. We don't fake "we tested for 90 days" if we haven't.

Signals we discount

Categories every review covers

Affiliate disclosure (in plain English)

If a tool pays a referral commission, we include a tracked link. If it doesn't, we link directly. Either way, the tool's place in our ranking does not change. You'll see the commission line on every relevant page above the fold; that's the FTC requirement and it's also basic respect for your time.

What we will and won't do
